A popular topic in 2024, when this piece was painted, was female rage. This was my impression of it at the time. At first glance the painting is soft, mostly pinks and pale neutrals, but the brushstrokes feel heavier the longer you look at them. The gray shapes seem overtaken slowly instead of all at once. I think at the time I expected rage to feel explosive, but mine felt quieter than that. More internal. More like something spreading under a cover of pinks.
