The title Would Have Been Cute came from the song Sienna by The Marías. At first it was mostly a placeholder, but the more I sat with the painting, the more the title felt right. The soft pinks and warmer peach tones make the piece feel light at first, but the darker brushstrokes interrupt that softness before it can become overly sweet. I liked letting parts of it stay unresolved instead of forcing them into balance. There’s something hesitant about this painting that I still like.
