Layer after layer of black and white were built up to create this melted, untidy thing of a painting. The brushstrokes blur into each other in some places and sit heavily in others, giving the piece a kind of imbalance that I ended up liking more than anything resembling perfection. Despite the limited palette, the texture keeps it from feeling flat. It’s messy, dramatic, and a little difficult to pin down.
